History

Hadong was called 'Dasachon' (county of abundant sand) during Jinguk Period and was a part of 'Nangnoguk', one of 12 Byeonhan countries during Byeonghan Period.

According to Samguk Sagi ('History of the Three Kingdoms'), Hadong was 'Handasa-gun' but was renamed 'Hadong-gun' in 757 in the 16th year of King Gyeongdeok’s reign. In Goryeo Period, Hadong was 'Hadong-hyeon' and in 1414, the 14th year of King Taejong’s reign in Joseon Dynasty Period, it became 'Hanam-hyeon' merged with 'Namhae-hyeon'.
